Description
Siudem et al. (2020) describe a three-dimensional model to measure scientific impact of an author, generally called 3DSI. The first dimension is simply the total number of publications, and the second is the total number of citations. The third dimension is for a parameter ρ which generally describes the distribution of citations within the publications based on a preferential attachment rule (strictly speaking ρ is the ratio of preferential citations to total citations). Roughly speaking, positive values of ρ (approximately one or greater) indicate that most citations are preferentially going to a limited number of publications, values around zero indicate approximately a random citation distribution according to their model, and negative values indicate citations are more evenly spread among publications.
While the first two dimensions are simple to calculate, there are many methods for estimating ρR from empirical data.
In this version, we use a rank-size domain estimator, ρR (Gagolewski et al. 2022), determined as:
$$\rho_R = \frac{P-\frac{2csr^3}{C^P}+1}{P-\frac{csr^3}{C^P}},$$where csr is the cube-root of the sum of ranks.
